This world is so beautiful and we don't have to just accept what we've inherited. The artist tells the story of their world and imagines what if?
I ask, what if artists didn't just ask what if, but helped fund what if?
As a poet I've always refused to fit in the container sold to me by middle class America, my creeping doubts began in the early 2000's before the system was so obviously gutting itself, drunk upon it's own mad authority as it try's to buy everything of today and tomorrow's tomorrow.
I was able to perform their circus tricks enough to scrape by to keep a belly fed and a roof warm over head, while I plotted in my community, dreaming of a future where art could help fund an alternative path to this tragedy handed down from generation to generation.
Though I grew up in rural Iowa, at the heart of mono-culture corporate farm reality, my home town was also the epicenter of Transcendental Mediation, a form of meditation based on Vedic Science of India as made popular by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. This brought an active organic food movement in the early 90's long before Whole Foods brought it into the mainstream awareness. With this foundation regenerative culture was something I was organically drawn too as I got older.
In 2015 I earned my permauculture design certificate. This has become a core lens from which I develop everything I do. I think of it as designing with whole cycles in mind. There is no out of sight out of mind. How do we build in alignment with our organic world? What are we chasing? There's no race to win. Only a garden to tend too.
A few organizations that are actively doing regenerative work in the world are The Bloom Network and Re^Human.
The Bloom Network
Bloom is a social network for people who care about the places they live. Most media is optimized for fear. Fear keeps you scrolling. Scrolling keeps you passive. Passive keeps you consuming. Bloom is built on the opposite principle. Our feed shows you what communities around the world are building - solutions you can learn from, replicate, and scale where you live. Watersheds healing. Food systems growing. Economies that keep wealth close to home.
This is a deliberate choice about what deserves attention, and who holds the power to act on it.
Bloom provides the infrastructure to support and fund local organizers to self organize regenerative culture in their communities. It channels grant funds and cooperative profits to the communities doing the work. No lengthy grant applications, just you documenting the work your community is doing, so people everywhere can learn from and support it. This is called Retroactive Public Goods Funding, and it's how we're building self-sustaining local economies.
You can apply to start your own Bloom chapter and start doing this good work where you live. www.Bloomnetwork.org
ReHuman
Indigenous-Led Online Courses Mobilizing Humanity Toward Biocultural Restoration
ReHuman is dedicated to giving people from all sectors the tools and knowledge they need to heal our planet. We firmly believe that humanity's deepest and truest purpose is to be a keystone species, or a species upon which entire ecosystems depend. Indigenous civilizations around the world and throughout time have proven that we can catalyze biodiversity with our very presence, when guided by the proper values and strategies. ReHuman is an Indigenous suite of online courses designed to bring these skills and worldviews to the world, as responsibly and effectively as we can. www.rehuman.earth
This family has been fighting for a long time. This poet votes for doing something different for a change. What would the world look like post war? What if art helped fund the ReBuilding pARTy? What if we put the energy of war into art and regeneration? What if we dared to imagine a future worthy of gifting the next generations. As John Lennon wrote “You may say I’m a dreamer, But I’m not the only one, I hope someday you’ll join us, And the world will live as one.”
Who wants to join the ReBuilding pARTy? We’ve got a lot of work to do, art will make it enjoyable and can help fund it.
You can collect this for free but if you pay something 77% goes to ReHuman.
Over my many years in doing this work I've not documented a whole lot because I was busy doing the work. Documentation is helpful to show the trail of what's been done and how it's evolving. I'll use this release as a growing document of the work. I'll also post up a screen shot of every payment made to ReHuman. It will be a monthly payment from the funds that were made by this piece that month.
The heART of humanity cries out for liberation beyond the fences of these tame pastures which have emaciated our magick.
This piece declares my mission to help activate an art movement that gives a % of it's profits to support projects working in regenerative culture.
